Patagonia Down Sweater Review From The Patagonia Clothing Range

The Patagonia down sweater from the Patagonia clothing range features premium European 800 fill power goose down for insulation to keep a user extremely warm for various outdoor activities.

About Patagonia

Yvon Chouinard is the founder of Patagonia which was first named Chouinard Equipment that had become a large supplier of climbing hardware in the U.S.

Not only do Patagonia supply hi-tech performance clothing for the all outdoor activities, they also adhere to outstanding Environmental Ethics by using environmentally friendly fabrics and supporting projects that cares for the habitat we love to camp, hike, climb or ski within.

Patagonia clothing continues to search for more environmentally friendly fabrics which perform well or even better than before and many Patagonia users would agree that their garments from the base layer to the outer shell do just that, perform well.

We take a look at the Patagonia down sweater jacket to find out why consumers give high marks for this product, the features, the conditions its suitable for and if its worth the price tag of over $200.

Features Of The Patagonia Down Sweater

Patagonia down sweater
  • Quilted construction keeps insulation firmly in place to help maintain warmth
  • European 800 goose down insulation is a very warm insulator, its also lightweight and compressible that's useful for tucking away in a pack
  • The interior chest pocket doubles to be used as a stuff sack (zippered stretch-mesh that doubles as a stuff sack with carabiner clip-in loop) which is a useful feature for the backpacker
  • Two external pockets to be used as hand warmers with zippers
  • Very lightweight for packing away when out of use ( gets a bit too warm), weighing 368 g (13 oz)

Models Available

The features and design of the Patagonia down sweater makes the Jacket a great option for those seeking a comfortable, easy to pack and lightweight Jacket which is available for men and women. Patagonia also have a hooded version available for those that prefer hooded jackets for colder conditions.

Advantages/Disadvantages Of The Patagonia Down Sweater

The Down sweater has many advantages to be found, here are a few we liked.

Advantages:

  • Lightweight design makes it a great option for backpacking and in conditions when body temperatures may change from physical activity or weather to be packed away with minimal weight to carry.
  • Another advantageous feature is how well the sweater compresses to fit in the internal stuff sack which is great once again for those carrying a pack.
  • The Patagonia sweater can be used under an outer shell and as an outer shell dependant on the temperatures (layering). This is a multi purpose garment that looks great for colder evenings out around town but performs how Patagonia says it would for many outdoor activities.
  • We love the colors available from the bright Ultramarine blue to the inconspicuous grey or black. You would be hard pushed to not find a suitable color.
  • The materials used make the comfort factor of this jacket top notch.

All products have pros and cons and the Patagonia down sweater is no different. However, the disadvantages are very limited but we had to try and find them.

Disadvantages:

The main disadvantage is the $200 price tag but we get what we pay for which is quality.

Conclusion/Overall

The Patagonia down sweater has all the features that anyone would need in a multi purpose, lightweight and comfortable Jacket/sweater. Consumers have nothing but good news for those thinking about purchasing the down sweater which made it very difficult for us to find complaints.

The only disadvantage is the cost but most consumers understand the best of any gear comes at a higher price tag.

Recommended Use: Ice climbing, alpine climbing, mountaineering, skiing, cool weather ultralight backpacking, mid layer under the shell in colder climates and casual wear in cool weather. Keep in mind its not a winter jacket but can be used in cold weather.
