The fun things we can do while camping will depend on the age group of those going, where you plan to go, how long the trip is for and of course what kind of weather is expected.
Let's take a look at a list of useful activities that can make camping fun, relaxing, a challenge or whatever you want it to be.
If your taking the kids camping you'll find this article is best suited for you which is more specific for children’s needs.
Make a plan Stan: It will serve you well if you make a plan first. If you want plenty of camping activities to do or a certain type of activity then check if your able to camp nearby before booking a camp site.
Don't do it the other way around and book a site hoping there’s the things available you would like to do, incase you end up staying at an area which doesn’t offer what you wan't.
Be aware that some campgrounds and sites won't allow groups of lads or youngsters to stay. Mainly at family orientated places. This is obviously due to concerns about noise.
If your planning on staying up late and generally just having a great laugh with your pals then choose a site that is quieter or at least pitch your tents well away form people who look like they might be in their pyjamas at 9pm.
Here's some ideas you might find useful when on a camp out with friends:
Canoe camping/Kayaking: You can hire canoes for a few days or just for a day with an instructor helping and use rental services without instruction. Some companies will collect the canoes at the end of your trip if you choose a trip for a few days. Otherwise you've got a long way to paddle back upstream to return them.
Quad biking: This is something that can be great fun with friends or a family. We hired quad bikes for an hour on a mates stag camp trip which was enough time and not too expensive.
When it rains on a camp trip I find it a bit boring being stuck in a tent playing cards. However playing cards, reading or other indoor games are great if it rains for an hour or so to kill time until it clears.
If it's likely to rain for the day I would suggest you just put your waterproofs on and get stuck into anything you would do if the weather was nice. It can be a lot of fun! Just make sure you have a dry set of clothes to change into when you arrive back at camp.
Here's a quick list of things you can do when it's raining:
