Hooks House Farm is a family run Campsite that was the best find in Whitby, North Yorkshire based on it's location, friendliness of staff and how peaceful the area is.
The site is situated very close to Robin Hoods Bay within the beautiful North Yorkshire Moors which provides a basic low cost vacation.
Hooks House is a basic campsite without the bar, on site shop and everything else large caravan and camping sites offer. However, this is what many campers seek for a more real camping experience without distractions.
While the site has basic facilities everything including shops, pubs, restaurants, trails, and the beach is within walking distance.
Hooks House farm charges per person rather than pitch which was an advantage for me solo camping and would be for couples, although they can charge a minimum of 2 adults within busy periods.
Sitting down with the family having a BBQ with a beer in hand watching the sunset at Robin Hoods Bay is something not to be missed.
Fylingthorpe Village and Robin Hoods bay are about a 10 minutes walk down hill from the site to visit. For Robins Hood turn left or turn right to visit Fylingthorpe.
Days out to the Steam Railway, Staintondale Shire horse centre, coastal walks or trails, the river Esk and Whitby town are among popular things to do and visit locally.
The main site office and the kitchen area has many brochures for attractions and activities available locally if your looking for a day away from camp and the staff are helpful if advice is needed.
From Filey to Whitby this was the best site I had visited. The atmosphere here is all about the outdoors and the location provides the perfect setting for taking days out or just relaxing at camp for the day admiring the landscape.
If you don't do countryside very well and need discos with burger or pizza at hand this place may not be for you.
Smart Tip: Be aware of the sheep when walking through the field and try to respect their home. One head butted my dog Tess in the bum when she looked at it's lamb to warn her off.
I'm hoping I get the chance to visit in the future again!
The site is open all year round and charges £7 - £9 per adult, £3 per child and £3 - £4 a night for an electric hook up.
Booking: There is no advance bookings available for short stay tent camping. They're available based on a first come first served basis so it might be a good idea to get there early within school holidays.
Long stay tent campers and electrical hook up users can make a booking by contacting the owners at the website or by telephone. The same booking rules apply to those wanting to book the caravan or cottage.
Caravan and Cottage: Hooks House Farm also have a static caravan and Cottage that you would need to contact them about for more information and prices.
