Osprey packs, the Company, was founded in 1974 by Mike Pfotenhauer, living in Santa Cruz, California; relocating to southwestern Colorado in 1990.

The Osprey Company hired workers from the Navajo Reservation and began to sell their high quality backpacks, beginning with the Outlander and continuing to gain fame and reputation among hikers and backpackers.

In 1993, they introduced the first of a long series of backpacks custom made for women, the Isis.

One of the reasons that the Osprey Backpacks have won so many awards and have avid customers all over the globe is that the innovations they introduced truly changed backpacking and hiking to an affordable, enjoyable sport.

The most important changes have been engineering the backpack frames and hip belts to custom fit the customer who will be using them many times throughout the years.

In 2008, the Osprey Company was selected by Outside Magazine as one of the best places to work in America. In 2010 the National Geographic Adventure Magazine awarded the Osprey Raptor 6 backpack the Best of Adventure Award.

The Osprey Atmos 65 is made for men, with a specialized aluminium frame and suspension system that supports the back without causing any of the annoying hot spots in the back from a pack that does not fit properly, making your whole trip a pain instead of a fun time.

The Atmos 65 is made to handle a lot of gear, measuring 30 inches by 14 inches by 12 inches and handling all the gear needed for overnight to a week long trek; holding from 10 to 55 pounds of gear.

All of the Osprey Backpacks are designed to fit ergonomically around the back, using the shoulder harness and hip belt that is custom formed to fit every individual.

The zippered pockets and straps are located along the back and sides, allowing easy access to the gear inside. Popular features include the trekking pole attachment that allows the stowing or removal of poles without removing the pack; the other is a hydration design that allows a drinking tube to access the reservoir which is sold separately. The Osprey Ariel 75 is a very comfortable women's backpack, with contoured frame and custom molded hip belt that allows the pack to fit the person who it is manufactured for.

The length is 33.5 inches; the width is 15 inches and the depth is 13.8.The Ariel 75 holds from 10 to 70 pounds of camping gear and clothes and has been used for mountaineering and backpacking.

The Osprey Jib 35 pack, is designed for youths from ages 10 to 15 and it offers the same technology that the larger Osprey packs have, just scaled down to fit the smaller frame of the youth.
