Camping With Kids: Survival of the Fittest Camping with kids can be brutal. Unless you prepare for this painstaking event. With the proper preparations, it can be an adventure you look forward to every year!
First of all, keep this in mind: you may go camping to rest, relax, and gaze into the fire, but children want to be entertained. Here are a few things you can do to make your camping trip a success:
1. Prepare a scavenger hunt in advance of your trip. Items your kids can locate include a feather, live bug, soda pop tab, candy bar wrapper, worm, something red, white and blue, a campsite map.... The list can go on and on. Use your imagination and tailor your scavenger hunt for where you will be camping. If you are camping in the middle of the woods, you won't be finding any campsite maps!
2. Glow sticks. Kids love these and they are usually $1.00 at the Dollar Store. They will keep the kids occupied, and you will be able to see them in the dark!
3. Flashlights. Kids love flashlights. They should each have their own to prevent fighting. It can calm your child in the event of a scarry noise if they can keep a flashlight in their sleeping bag.
4. Make sure you are stocked with all the preparations for Smores. Who doesn't love a Smore? Make sure you bring a box of wipies. These will come in handy throughout the entire camping trip.
5. Last but not least, swimming suits. Whether your campsite has a lake, river or puddle of water....let them jump in and have a good time. It's all about having fun!
The best thing about camping is that kids love getting down to nature. Let them have fun and use your imagination!
